St Michael's MountThursday, we did not know where to start today but as St Michael's Mount had towered over Mount's bay, for ever, we decided to start there. Being that is was low tide first thing in the morning, we were able to stroll across the causeway and then back again after lunch.

This magical island is the jewel in Cornwall's crown, a national treasure which is a must for every visitor to the far west. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We had been watching the tides all week and had come to the conclusion that we could cross the causeway, on foot, at 11:15am which we did without incident.

Rosie and IlonaYet another cat watched us approach. It looked from left to right then beckoned to us, we siddled over to it and sat down, where upon it informed us, in broken English and in a most confidential tone, that we were entering the portals of an embattled castle, originally a Benedictine Priory built in the twelfth century. It sits on top of the granite crag and is the daughter of Mont St Michel in Normandy, it's history goes back to before the Spanish invasions. Then he put his head back down on his paws and went to sleep in the sunshine, with a broad smile on his face.

This was very interesting and informative but unfortunately it got us no where, we could find nothing about Mowzer anywhere. Our consolation, however were the views, they are incredible.

The Lizard, with it's light house looking over Mount Bay, it seemed a good idea at the time but again nothing. The ice cream was amongst the best I have ever tasted, the light house had it's fog horn going, rather high pitched and very eeiry, but the howling gale was the highlight, or what it was doing to the sea, waves crashed over the rocks in the cove, some must have reached over 30 meters.

We sat on the balcony of a cafe, overlooking the raging sea and drank hot chocolate with Cornish clotted cream and ate Death by Chocolate. See the photo ablum on the next page.

Saturday. This was it, time for departure. We'd had a great holiday and I felt a little sad that we had not found out about Mousehole's lights. I opened the Tank's tail gate and just for a few moments I saw Mowzer, in the back with her fish.

Ssssh in hereShe explained :- "As we came in sight of home, a strange sight met our eyes. The whole village of Mousehole was shining with lights and lanterns gleaming along both arms of the harbour. For when the people of Mousehole had woken to find old Tom's boat missing and a light left in his window, they knew that we had gone out to find fish for them, or to perish on the deep water."

All day they had watched and waited, staring out into the cloud- wracked sea, but they could see no sign of us. And when night fell, the women went home and set candles in all their windows and every man lit his lantern and went down to the harbour walls.

And every year since that day, at the inn on the quayside, the people of Mousehole hold a fish-feast on the night before Christmas Eve and raise their glasses to the memory of my old Tom. And every year, in the yard at the back of the inn, the cats of Mousehole gather and raise a great howling to the memory of me. And every year, folk come from all over Cornwall at Christmas time, to see Mousehole lit up with a thousand lights, shining their message of hope and a safe haven to all those who pass in peril of the sea."
