Ayrshire

"AYRSHIRE, is a maritime county in the SW of Scotland, adjoining the counties of Renfrew, Lanark, Dumfries, Kirkcudbright and Wigtown.
Ayrshire is in the shape of a crescent, with the concave side running along the Firth of Clyde for about 70 miles.
Its greatest breadth, across the middle, is 30 miles.
Area, 1128.5 sq. miles., or 729,186 acres.
The soil varies, sandy near the coast, to a rich clay in the middle parts, and moor in the uplands. The rivers are the Garnock, Irvine, Ayr, Doon, Girvan, and Stinchar.
The largest loch is Loch Doon, on the SE. border.
The minerals are coal, iron, limestone, and sandstone, all of which are extensively worked.
The county is famous for dairy produce and a fine breed of cows.

The lofty islet of Ailsa Craig lies 10 miles off Girvan.

Girvan
Girvan is a fishing port, and a holiday resort. It also relies on farming and the distillery for employment. There is good bathing, golf and sea angling, tennis courts and bowling greens.
There are also trips to Ailsa Craig in the summer, the Craig being 10 miles off the coast and home to a myriad of seabirds including gannets and the puffins have, at last, returned now that the rats have been removed.
Angling - Pier fishing and boats. Mostly plaice, codling, rays, flounder, pollock and ling, wrasse, mackerel, dogfish, conger.

Incentive, Silver Cord and Rosmaryann

This is where I was brought up. Girvan, a small fishing town in the South West of Scotland.

I am the lad in the blue T shirt on the Integrity. We were just off to White Haven in the North West of England, after white fish.

I usually went out on the Integrity or the Incentive.
In the summer we trawled for white fish and prawns.
then towards the end of January it was Trammel Net fishing, off the Ballantre Banks, after the herring. When ever I had the chance I went out on the Onward, from Hopeman, in the North East of Scotland. The Onward was involved in Seign Net fishing for white fish.

A wild winter's day. The slogan used to be "Girvan's Atlantic Breezes Cures Winter Sneezes"
Hopefully I will add more pictures.
