Gromet's Refurbishment 2007
Page 1

After 14 Years Gromet is looking a little worse for wear and tear.

Finding some one to refurbish him was a problem though. Warwick 4x4 no longer refurbish Series III Land Rovers but eventually we found a small family buisness down south, down Worcester way.

Now the real problems begin so many decisions to make, what NEEDS to be done?
What would I LIKE doing? How much MONEY do I have?
Yes it comes down to a REALITY check.

It was a good clear day in November, November the 13th to be precise. The birds were singing and the Sat Nav., Hamish, was telling me to “get a move on” and to “listen this time! Make sure to turn right at Beech Lane.”

Rosie was in the Disco. Both our engines fired up on Q,

I put my foot on the clutch pedal and it fell to the floor! It came up again, of its own volition, but it was not doing the job it was designed to do. 70 miles to go and a useless clutch! Luckily things did improve and within 30 miles the clutch pedal was behaving, most of the time but

Hamish was not.

“You are on the M42 but lets out fox all this traffic and take a few A and B roads instead”;

I ignored him - but as it

turned out I did this at my peril.

He shouted at me “TURN LEFT – TURN LEFT“ but it was too late, we sailed on regardless, we stuck to our original course but Hamish was not please.

"There are no more routes to your destination!" and he quit.

I was just merging with a couple of motorways with lanes criss crossing everywhere, Rosie behind me in our Disco, vehicles travelling at 70 mph and signs telling me to get into the right lane NOW!!! I apologised to Hamish - nothing. I apologised profusely to Hamish:-
"Oh alright then, take that lane over there." Only just in time.

15 minutes later we were with the Churchill Family, having a very pleasant chat over a cup of tea. BUT there was no getting away from it, some decisions had to be made! We eventually decided upon red but of course there are 234 shades of red or was it 762? The colour was deferred but everything else was sorted.

Later that night - What Colour?

Time to choose:-
Jonathan emailed us 3 pictures showing the more recent metallic red colours from the late 1990's onwards. The latest metallic red is "Rimini Red" as shown on LR's website.

Alveston
Red
Riocca Red
- 2nd Choice -
Rioja
Red

Rimini Red
After much deliberation we chose Bonnati Grey, the same colour as our late Tomb Raider
Then Green as in our late Range Rover - no it has to be Rimini Red

RE: Refurbish Siii

Hi Fionn,

Hope you are well.

Just to keep you updated on progress with your Series 3. It has nearly had all the bodywork done and should come out of the bodyshop by the end of this week. Then we will start on the interior and mechanical next week. I shall keep you informed as this gets nearer completion.

Kind regards
Jonathan
