Memories of Girvan
09/01/2003
Hi
I was surfing when I found your page. What a walk down memory lane that was. I knew all those places.
Seeing the High School was unbelievable, I was there in 1960 and still have a school mag somewhere signed by pupils of that time.
Your dad Mr Taylor I don`t recall but he maybe wasn`t there then.
My best friends father was a plummer, Mr Lennox. Oh yes, I didn`t say where I lived, it wasn`t in Girvan, but at Balkenna Cottages near Turnberry.
My father was the local Gamekeeper on Culzien Estate.
Thanks for putting the photos on your site I will be able to show my daughters where I used to go to school.
Sincerely
Annette

Found your site while checking on Girvan-online and recognise Margaret Anne Muir (Muir's the Chemist) on the right hand side of the photo and Fiona Smart right in front (George Smart the insurance man's daughter) Also recognise David Wallace and Allan Wright and Roddy. These are good pictures- very clear
Thanks for the memories they brought back Am now Sconaid Clark (was Sconaid McKnight at school) and would mention that I have not seen your Dad for a while - I assume he is off on his travels. No doubt he'll pop in to the Cafe for his ice cream as he does.

In my search for finding sites to explain where I was born and enjoyed the first few years of my existence in Girvan, I ran across your site. I enjoyed looking at the pictures that reminded me of where I came from, and where I got to visit till I was 15...I have not been back since and yearn to be home again. I hope to be able to share your site with others that would like to know about Girvan, since my description certainly does not due it justice. I have Lived here in the states since I was 5. Being 35 now, it is certainly time for me to find my way back home, and seeing your site reiterated the fact how I long to be back within my community...my family, my heritage. Keep working on the site, it can only grow to immense proportions, and I will certainly bookmark it. Eliza Davidson
OK Eliza I have added some more photos, and I will try to add more
